Escape From Jerusalem
Escape from Jerusalem
Escape from Jerusalem is a 2D top-down puzzle/adventure prototype inspired by the Book of Mormon.
You play as part of Nephi's family as they leave Jerusalem and begin a dangerous journey into the wilderness. Explore ancient Jerusalem, interact with its inhabitants, investigate problems, and find creative ways forward.
Explore. Talk. Solve.
This prototype focuses on a few core ideas:
- Exploration — Navigate a stylized interpretation of ancient Jerusalem and discover places, people, and opportunities.
- NPC Interaction — Talk with characters, gather information, and learn about the world around you.
- Problem Solving — Approach obstacles from different directions rather than following a single predetermined path.
- Time Progression — The world changes as time advances, with characters and events responding to the passage of time.
- Noncombat Gameplay — The focus is on exploration, conversation, persuasion, and puzzle solving rather than combat.
Prototype
This is an early prototype and is primarily intended to demonstrate the game's core gameplay and direction.
The artwork and visual assets are intentionally rough at this stage. The goal of this prototype is to validate the gameplay, world structure, and overall concept before committing to a final visual style.
If the core concept proves successful, future development would expand the world, refine the gameplay systems, establish a cohesive art direction, and develop the story further.
About the Project
This project is being developed in Godot as an independent game-development project and portfolio piece.
